Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

If your vet is recommending a professional cleaning because of tartar buildup, it's probably worth taking seriously. Dental disease can lead to pain, infections, and even affect other organs if left untreated. The anesthesia part is definitely understandable to worry about, but for a healthy 6-year-old dog, the risks are generally low when proper bloodwork and monitoring are done. Not every dog needs a cleaning every year—it really depends on their dental health and how well their teeth are maintained at home.

My dad didn’t bring his small dog in for dental cleaning…she ended up really sick from it. That was years ago so I can’t remember all the details. However, because of that, I have had all my dogs (which are small) in for dentals. Your vet is making a very good recommendation. Mine is scheduled for a cleaning in August. She didn’t need a cleaning until then, but vet said it was time.

Yes, if you're not already cleaning their teeth regularly. Which if there's build up you're probably not

I started with my puppy licking the "toothpaste" off my finger. It must be yummy. Then when that was fun I started putting my finger in her mouth and running it around the teeth. I use the little over-the-finger nubby tooth brush. Eventually I added toothpast to that. Lick, lick, lick. Then started rubbing that around her teeth and mouth. It's not like she stands there with her mouth open wide but she doesn't fight me. I had three ACDs in the past. They all had dental work/cleanings at times. And you knew it was coming by how bad their breath smelled. I wish I had done better for them.

I just did my dog for the first time at 4 years. He did fine. He was a little tired the rest of the day but his teeth do look much better. My mom is always adamant about cleaning her pets teeth at the vet and her animals always live over 15 years.
