Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Help me find a breed! - I am looking to get a dog in the next few years. Here's what we've been thinking about. Anyone have other ideas? 1) Will this be your first dog? If not, what experience do you have owning/training dogs? \* No. I have had 2 dogs as an adult. One was home-trained to be a service dog (he was a real service dog, but another one wasn't needed). The other is reactive and we have worked with professional trainers to manage. He is our current dog, and has done well with other dogs once he gets to know them. 2) Do you have a preference for rescuing a dog vs. going through a \reputable breeder\? \* Reputable breeder 3) Describe your ideal dog. \* Easygoing, laid-back but able to go hiking and camping. Can get along with all dogs and cats. Can live with a reactive dog, and not learn bad habits. Independent enough to be home alone for 8 to 9 hours for work, but still be able to have a good recall. Happy to go anywhere with us. 4) What breeds or types of dogs are you interested in and why? \* Bernese Mountain Dog, Golden retriever, Labrador, Standard Poodle. All are pretty good with dogs and strangers. The hair and drooling are the concerns with Bernese and Goodlens 5) What sorts of things would you like to train your dog to do? \* Basic obedience, random tricks, agility 6) Do you want to compete with your dog in a sport (e.g. agility, obedience, rally) or use your dog for a form of work (e.g. hunting, herding, livestock guarding)? If so, how much experience do you have with this work/sport? \* No competitions, but maybe just for fun. \*\*Care Commitments\*\* 7) How long do you want to devote to training, playing with, or otherwise interacting with your dog each day? \* 1 to 2 hours of training/play. 8) How long can you exercise your dog each day, on average? What sorts of exercise are you planning to give your dog regularly and does that include using a dog park? \* 1 hour exercise. No dog parks, but other off leash areas that are fenced in. 9) How much regular brushing are you willing to do? Are you open to trimming hair, cleaning ears, or doing other grooming at home? If not, would you be willing to pay a professional to do it regularly? \* Willing to brush weekly, light daily if needed. Good to trim, clean ears and do nails at home, but willing to pay for professional as needed. \*\*Personal Preferences\*\* 10) What size dog are you looking for? \* Medium to large. Current dog is 65lbs, something big enough to keep up (45-80 is ideal) 11) How much shedding, barking, and slobber can you handle? \* Shedding: minimum preferred, but we have hard wood floors so more isn't a problem. Barking: little is best, but some is fine. Slobber: minimal just all the time slobber. More during play is fine. 12) How important is being able to let your dog off-leash in an unfenced area? \* Pretty important. A good recall or desire to stay close is best \*\*Dog Personality and Behavior\*\* 13) Do you want a snuggly dog or one that prefers some personal space? \* One who likes to snuggle but is fine being told to go away. I don't always want to try to merge souls with it. 14) Would you prefer a dog that wants to do its own thing or one that’s more eager-to-please? \* Eager to please, but can also do its own thing sometimes. I'd like it to be able to hang out by itself in the backyard without digging or crying. 15) How would you prefer your dog to respond to someone knocking on the door or entering your yard? How would you prefer your dog to greet strangers or visitors? \* Barking at the door is fine, but preferably have it calm down easily. Happy to meet anyone is great. 16) Are you willing to manage a dog that is aggressive to other dogs? \* No. Our current dog is slightly reactive and we can't have anything that will fight with him. 17) Are there any other behaviors you can’t deal with or want to avoid? \* Nothing that can't be fixed with training \*\*Lifestyle\*\* 18) How often and how long will the dog be left alone? \* Week days for 8 to 10 hours, weekends for 2. 19) What are the dog-related preferences of other people in the house and what will be their involvement in caring for the dog? \* Spouse has the same preferences, no one else in the house. 20) Do you have other pets or are you planning on having other pets? What breed or type of animal are they? \* 2 cats. One male lab/border collie/cattle dog who is currently 2.5, but will probably be closer to 5 by the time we're ready for another dog. 21) Will the dog be interacting with children regularly? \* Nope 22) Do you rent or plan to rent in the future? If applicable, what breed or weight restrictions are on your current lease? \* Rent, no limits on lease. 23) What city or country do you live in and are you aware of any laws banning certain breeds? \* Oregon, no laws that i know of 24) What is the average temperature of a typical summer and winter day where you live? \* Summer: mid 70s to low 100s. Winter: 30s to 50s, but a lot of rain. \*\*Additional Information and Questions\*\* 25) Please provide any additional information you feel may be relevant. \* No additional information. 26) Feel free to ask any questions below.

Look up Sniffspot app. If your dog has good recall with hand signs that helps. They do very well with sign language.

Just get a long lead! Let’s them feel off leash , but they aren’t. If you can’t recall your dog (for whatever reason, whether it’s training, prey drive, hearing based, etc) having them off leash is a danger that simply isn’t worth it

Kangal mix - behavior - I've had (what I think is) a kangal mix for about two and a half months now. Vet says he is 11 to 13 months old. Found it outside my house, clearly malnourished and scared. Took him in, fed him, bathed him, and now he is loved and taken care of. I am a bit baffled by his behavior. At first, he slept a lot, and once he got more comfortable started being more active. He learnt to walk on a leash, sit, wait, recall, quite quickly. However I have three issues: When off-leash (I live outside the city so I got large fields where I can let him free), sometimes he will run away and make me chase him for quite a bit as he won't react to the recall. Other times, he won't stray more than 20ft away from me. Secondly, he sort-of pulls onto the leash while walking. If I stop and he feels tension on the leash, he will also stop and wait. However, usually when I walk him, he constantly slightly pulls, but not excessively to give me an arm workout. There is the rare occasion when he's well behaved and I literally don't feel him on the leash. I have been training and doing positive reinforcement everyday for the past two months. Finally, he dismantles things. Once every few days, he finds something around the house and shreds it to pieces (trash can, flower pot). Also occasionally digs. If you've read this far, any advice is highly appreciated. Is this behavior true to his kangal roots and there's little I can do about it? Added some photos (when I found him vs today).

I know someone used to tell their dog 'do your business' instead of go potty Also a friend of mine suggested that I teach my puppy to come to me using her name and select another phrase or name to have them come to you A person she knew taught the pup to come to them (recall) using its name. Another phrase they used - aside from the dogs name was- "Beer Run" something unique.
