I’m new to small dogs too. Adopted a 14lb 10yo chihuahua a few months ago. My last dog was a greyhound. While walking, she loves to stop and smell the roses and I like to let her. If I’m not actively looking down and watching her, I don’t notice she’s stopped and I accidentally tug her if I don’t stop. I can’t see her if I’m looking forward bc she tends to hang just slightly behind me in the right. So I spend most the walk looking down which isn’t ideal. Not sure what to do about it tbh lol. I’d like to keep my eyes up so I can keep an eye out for ppl/dogs coming by but don’t wanna tug her like crazy

We keep a couple of attractive sheets that we rotate over the couch the dogs spends lots of time on. We have a small dog who we let up on the bed - but only on a towel. He's learned to wait until the towel is ready before hopping on. We also wipe down his paws regularly - couple of times a week at minimum.

I have a big breed and a little breed (chi/min pin/etc). I love having a small dog and a big dog. It can be hard when their needs are so different but it’s something I’m used to by now. But as some people have mentioned, typically the cost of a small dog is significantly lower. I love my little dog so much, she’s really the best 💛

Pros: portability, small dogs are welcome many places and very easy to travel with. Cons: increased worry about their safety, and other people's biases (including many trainers unfortunately 😅)
