   If he’s calm at home and nearby you he’s most likely content, if he’s wrecking the house then he probs needs more engagement. Throw in some small training sessions. I use kibble at night as treats when I do my dog’s daily grooming (brush teeth, fur, clean eyes etc.) and the leftovers I use as treats for a training session. It’s usually super short and no more than 5 minutes but she has a lot of fun - I also make it active (ask her to stay run into another room and ask her to come and she has to find me)

   My dog pees 4 times a day, can easily hold it overnight for 12+ hours (no, I'm not stopping him from going out, he's just too comfy to get out of bed in the morning), and has never had an accident when left alone but I don't leave him for longer than 5 hours. He costs 1/4 of what my large dog did at the vet (procedures, preventative medications, etc) He costs less at the groomer (small dog = smaller charge, at most groomers) He costs less in toys, he destroys his toys MUCH slower than a large dog and because they toys are small they are cheaper to purchase and easier to find. Beds are also much cheaper. He fits in the requirements for flying in cabin on an airplane so I can travel with him whenever I like He can be easily picked up in dangerous situations He is allowed in dog friendly businesses more readily than larger dogs He's easy to sleep with because he doesn't take up much space He's just as willing and able to train and learn tricks as all of my larger dogs have been, he can hike and run and do all of the things big dogs can. as for negatives? Teeth. They need their teeth brushed frequently, and even then you can expect dental issues pretty quickly. My dog got serious tartar build up on his larger back teeth before he even finished teething as a pup! They can be more fragile so if you have rambunctious kids you'll have to consider whether they can be trusted around the dog. Also, it can be hard to find harnesses that fit, he's only 7.4lbs and most "xs" harnesses are still too big for him. You likely won't have this issue with a 14lb dog.

   Love my min pin mix! One lovely thing is he burrows and loves cuddling under blankets. I love his portability - he’s flown around the country with me - and that I can essentially bring him anywhere, almost no one’s scared of a tiny dog. He plays incessantly with my young GSD and is respectfully cordial with my older Border Collie. I do feed him special (Dr.Marty’s), but he eats so much less, it’s not prohibitively expensive. Agree with all of the comments, brush their teeth! Mine was my first dog ever, so I didn’t realize that until too late, and had to have a few of his teeth pulled, and subsequently felt like an awful pet parent. But I learned, but hopefully you won’t have that learning curve. Hope you enjoy your new min pin mix!

   I get both of my dog’s teeth cleaned at least every two to three years. Yes it’s expensive but I didn’t do this with my older dog at first and he only has about 3 teeth left. Neither one has ever had an issue going under anesthesia

   Mine got her teeth cleaned around that age and I was so surprised by how clean they became! Of course, tartar returned but we have been practicing and she's very tolerant of at home toothbrushing now, which the vet recommended. She went from avoiding me for the whole day for showing her a toothbrush too walking over and allowing me to brush her teeth, then runs to the snack cabinet for her Greenie. No bleeding gums anymore when she chews on stuff which is great! And oral care is a strong indicator of overall health - strongly addicted with cardiovascular and cognitive health!
