   I’m sorry, it’s so hard. Me, I needed some normalcy after the illness and death. I went back to work and didn’t talk about my dad. (My coworkers knew and had signed a card.) I just wanted to compartmentalize and feel normal for part of my days. Sometimes I fell apart at home but I didn’t want to have too much free time to ruminate.

   Was working in Hollywood the day the riots started. Decided to leave for home in the Valley early. On the way home was listening to the radio and it was the first time I had heard the Emergency Broadcast System actually used. This time it was not a test. Kinda unnerving.

   Sorry about your Dad. Give yourself some grace. Once the crowds are gone, make sure to stay close to your brother. Nobody will better understand what you need, ever. As days turn into months, the fog will lift a bit. Lost my mom in 2018. We started celebrating her birthday at her favorite place. We usually have a great time and share fond memories. Be well

   I am so very sorry for your loss. For me, the day after my dad's service was the start of the "new normal" - there were no logistics to plan for his service (aside from getting his ashes back), there were almost no guests to keep us distracted and yeah... it was time to let the grief in. And it did. But! Take it a day at a time. I watched a bunch of college sports - distracting enough for 30-minute chunks but not so engaging that I couldn't slip into a nap or two as needed. Get some naps in. Make sure you are eating and hydrating. Maybe watch some silly Instagram reels. And know that there's no "right" or "wrong" way to handle this.

   We didn't use Backpacks or bags in high school. You carried a stack of books and folders around from class to locker. Went to your locker 3-4 times during the day. When packing up to go home you just took minimal amounts, what you needed that night. O-2 books and folders.
