Yeah I was class of 99 and our state weighted your GPA based on the difficulty of class you took. An honors or AP class was worth more points, which could drive your GPA up.

They add more for honors or +/- and some go to 5.0.

(class of 97) In my school, an A got you 4, but an A in an honors class was worth 5 and an A in an advanced placement class was worth 6. Not every class offered an honors or a.p. version, so those trying to make valedictorian took study hall rather than an elective that would bring down their average.

I think your school did you dirty. even when I went to school in the 1980s if you took an honors or an ap class, you got more than a 4 for the class.

Some systems give higher scores for AP or Honors classes so you can get a 5 in those classes. In general though, grades now are super inflated compared to when we were in high school and college due to the shift in pressure being put on teachers and schools now and less responsibility on students themselves.
