   I'd cry the second I smelled it cooking because I knew I'd have to sit til midnight at the table and finish it. I called it sliver. I guess I just associated it with something bad. My mother liked to force us to eat. I never cooked it for my kiddo because it's gross.

   Eat or go hungry. Or, in terms of vegetables, sit at the dining room table when your screaming dad tells you to eat your vegetables, until midnight. And then Mom coming down and telling me to go to bed. Vegetable win. When we had our first kid, she was picky. One day she refused to eat. We were worried. Called the doc. Should we make an alternative meal? Fuck no, is what he said on the phone. She will eat when she is hungry. So we serve what we serve and she does not eat until she does, finally, and that one meal cured the bullshit forever.

   Went out with a friend to a bar in Dallas. As soon as the clock struck midnight we hauled ass out of there, he dropped me off and headed into work to make sure the computers hadn't blown up since he was leading their Y2K team. Turns out he had done his job right for the last couple of years so it was an absolute nothingburger and he was back within an hour.

   Loved this so much. UYI1&2 were the only albums I waited in line for a store to open at midnight.
