   I have two teenagers with no food allergies whatsoever. When they were infants, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommended waiting till 12 months to introduce peanuts. That’s what we did, and we had no issues. I have a 2-year-old with peanut allergies that we discovered at 6 months of age (the current recommendation). She’s also allergic to all sorts of other foods. I don’t try to figure it out. Just luck of the draw (or lack thereof).

   I had a friend in school that was allergic to nuts…including peanuts which I know isn’t really a nut. She knew what she could eat & we didn’t share a lot of food with her unless it was an obvious safe food…packaged Doritos or the such. She always had to have an Epi-Pen on her &!it wasn’t until our teens that we actually saw it in use. She had asked if there was nuts in a dessert & the staff at the restaurant had forgotten about the crust & told us it was safe. It was terrifying.

   I’ve never known a single person with a peanut allergy. I lived on peanut butter as a child. I still eat it. It’s organic and salt/sugar free, but I love it just as much. My son was never allergic, either, but he couldn’t take it to school. (None of his friends were allergic, either…)

   I never knew anyone with a peanut allergy. I think the kids we see that have it now have been set up to have it because somewhere we decided peanuts were evil and they were never introduced to them at a young age.
