Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

If we had better social programs then we wouldn’t be using Social Security as the only retirement option for the nation.

All that demographic growth and it’s still not enough to hold off the coming massive drawdown in Social Security and Medicare funding (ie current workers pay current retirees’ benefits through FICA taxes so you always need a high ratio to stay solvent).

I have nothing but the hope of my Social Security that i paid into for 40 years now Aimee. Zero savings because who can save?!? I've earned the right not to have to work myself to death.

Yes, I can totally relate to your situation! I left my job, where I had worked for 23 years, at age 51, almost 52. I had absolutely planned to retire from there at 60–62 years old, but management got in the way of that. They didn’t outright “fire” me, but they made my work situation SO unbelievably miserable that I finally threw in the towel and resigned; I would have had a nervous breakdown otherwise. It was be most accurate to say that they “quietly fired” me or let me go via “constructive dismissal”, to use a couple of current terms. This was 10 years ago, and it was a horrible time in my life anyway. My husband had lost his well-paying job 4 years prior and had not worked since that time, so when I quit my job, we had NO money coming in! As a result, we spent down our retirement savings just to have something to live on. And now we’re both working gig jobs and have virtually nothing left of our retirement accounts. It’s pretty scary, since we’re both now in our sixties. Both of us are in pretty good health, but that, of course, could change. I hate to say this, but I don’t think I’ll be able to completely stop working until my parents are gone. I certainly dread the day that they are no longer with us, but I know that l’ll likely inherit a decent chunk of $$$. So THAT will be the main source of my retirement income (supplemented with some Social Security and pension income). Yes, I know it sounds awful and crass, but that’s just the reality of my situation. Yes, it’s scary! 😔😢
