Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

The bird in hand view is OK, BUT as something I have learned over the years of educating myself (yes, our public education system has failed all of us) on personal finance, this is not always the best approach for everyone. There is a saying that "personal finance" is personal, there is no one size fits all. SS collecting age is no exception. I for one am planning on 70 mainly as longevity insurance for my partner who likely will outlive me. I want to leave as much lifetime cashflow so expensive "old people expenses" such as health care and assisted living are covered. Taking SS at 62 just does not cut it for me. Now, we will evaluate annually , so things can change, of course. Flexibility is important. And all this SS fear is simply FUD BS. Yes, i don't trust the government when it comes to doing the best for us , BUT I have EVERY CONFIDENCE in the government's desire of SELF PRESERVATION. Any sane politician will want to be seen as solving the SS shortfall issue coming right around the corner - SS benefits won't be reduced, at least not for us Gen X so close to 'retirement'.

Doing great. No debt, house is paid off. Always tried to save and live below my means. SS will cover all non-discretionary bills. Investments will provide about twice the SS amount for fun, travel etc. Could retire now, but will probably wait a couple more years for a bigger financial cushion.

Too many comments here about having to plan ahead because SS is going away. SS is not going away as it’s a pay as you go system funded by the current workforce. With the trust fund projected to be depleted in a few years benefit levels will be cut by over 20% but with current workers paying the payroll tax retirees will receive their earned SS benefits, it’s just that it will be at reduced levels unless there is a fix by Congress.

After being a caretaker for mom and working full time, I lost my job within a week of losing my mom. They hired me back as a consultant and I did that for a while, as I also got other clients. Years later clients moved on (businesses were sold and some lost businesss), so im looking for a job at 61. Nothing is out there. Ive been living off my 401k but need to find a job soon. Luckily I have no mortgage on my house, so that is my equity for some retirement when I sell it and find a cheaper smaller place. The house needs a lot of work and I cant afford it. I might just take my SS when I turn 62.

Haven’t we been hearing this same story about SS “running out” for 30 years? Maybe we take a cut but it’s not “gone”
