   I know everyone is different, but when I'm grieving I like to have time to myself so I can sob in peace. Spend a good few days in it before I try venturing out for air with small trips. Anything that provides some small comfort - the ocean, some sun, some trees... I'm not a 'stay busy, stamp the feelings down' kinda person. Heartfelt condolences on your loss, OP.

   I had a friend whose daughter was allergic to “everything”. Including garlic and the sun. I made a pizza for her out of millet, tomatoes and goats cheese. It was her first “pizza”. It was a fun adventure but when they went home I was sure thankful I didn’t have to cook like that everyday. Girl could eat almost nothing “normal” and couldn’t go out in the sun. I imagined a childhood of that and hugged my healthy children very tight.

   I've needed glasses until I was in fourth grade. The joke in the family when the kids were young it was "mom's lost her glasses, and she can't find them until she finds them." Once, when the oldest was in preschool and I was pregnant with the next one, I wasn't feeling well, so DH dropped off the older one while I stayed in bed. Now, I need my glasses so badly that I have to put them on to get from the bed to the bathroom. I got up, and couldn't find my glasses. I looked and felt all over the bedside table, and on the floor. I got down on my stomach and stuck my arm under the bed and swept it back-and-forth to see if they had gotten knocked off. I actually ended up calling the preschool and having them get DS to the sun to ask him if he had seen my glasses. I had to have a friend pick him up after school. The authorities don't have to worry about me driving without wearing my corrective lenses, because I couldn't get out of my front door to the driveway and find my damn car without them! As it turned out, apparently while I was asleep, and DH & DS came in to say goodbye, somebody knocked my glasses on the floor, and somehow they got kicked so far under the bed that I couldn't see them or reach them. DH found them when he got home.

   Homemade soap bars, I wash my face when I shower. I also use sunscreen when I’m in the sun.

   I stay out of the sun as much as I can because I burn rather than tan and there's been a ton of skin cancer in the rest of the family. I have some heavy duty Australian stuff ("Cancer Council" brand sunblock) if I really can't avoid it. I wash in the shower with plain old soap (in particular, a fragrance free castille bar.) Face and most of my body: Washcloth if I feel particularly gross, on my hand otherwise. Smelly bits: get the bar directly. Very occasionally if a spot gets dry (usually my hands, and usually if I'm traveling someplace they have a real winter) some lotion. Usually whatever stinky sort the hotel has, because I rarely remember to bring my own.
