Not sure if you’re getting your history from Wikipedia or not, but Napster was hardly ever the main platform for a lot of the kids around back then. It was popular and “the face” of pirating, since it was the first truly big one. But like, almost everyone I knew who was pirating music moved to Limewire and Kazaa back then. I graduated from high school in 2005, btw. Napster was basically a blip in the radar, and pirating never really died down until Spotify came out.

Yup, we shared the entire series with each other when I worked at EA, where I'm sure at least half of us used napster on our machines to download music and other stuff cause we only had dial up at home lol

Uhhh...you might want to actually dig into the timelines you're arguing about. Record sales boomed in the 90's because of the advent of CD roms - people invested in physical storage media and wanted to keep up with the new trends, and a *large* portion of sales were to people who already owned the music on an older format (vinyl or cassette tapes) updating their collections to CDs. The Napster era was really short, '99 - '01, and the copycats like Kazaa and Limewire never really got the same levels of traction. To be frank, the biggest changes to music from streaming was the change from people actually purchasing media with the notion that they owned that media in perpetuity, to accepting not owning *any* of the content they purchase.
