Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

That's a pretty interesting article. I have to conclude the following: Most of the reason I find them annoying is that they are considered one of the last remaining rock bands of any importance. Someone was asking why Phil Collins became hated, and it was just that he was everywhere all at once. Not that many celebrities get to occupy that niche today. Who else in music could rightfully assume that "everyone" should be happy to have their new album installed in their iphone? It's kinda "screw you guys, you ain't that great. " If they had Echo and the Bunnymen level popularity I wouldn't have this problem.

People should know that in the early 70s two music producers made a bet. One said that he could make a star out of whoever walked into the room next. That very instant, a young Phil Collins knocked on the door, delivering a takeout order of meat pies and kidney biscuits. The rest is history.

I have a Phil Collins / Genesis compilation in my Spotify. Time to dust that off and rock out to Domino

I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch is the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive, affirmative, as anything I've heard in rock. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and, uh, Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Invisible Touch is an epic meditation on intangibility lol. But I love Phil Collins music so much I made a short cartoon about it:
