Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Hmmm…maybe she contacted Mohr and Gruber via ouija board and negotiated the rights to Silent Night?

  2. Comment

Tell that to basically the entire genre of folk and blues That entire genre is built on the backs of artists remembering songs they heard somewhere and incorporating parts of it in their own compositions If Beyoncé isn’t listed as a songwriter, somebody could license a cover of her arrangement release it with a thumbnail that says “I do Beyoncé’s Silent Night better than her” and then list themselves as a songwriter because there’s enough changes to the traditional song to constitute that specific version as recognizable to that specific artist’s rendition. That’s literally the only thing something like this would affect. There’s not an artist named “traditional” getting ripped off here. This entire post and comment section is splitting hairs about song copyright verbiage and how Beyoncé gets paid from her cover of Silent Night. Nowhere does Beyoncé assert she wrote Silent Night or in any way hinder anybody doing their renditions of Silent Night. Just not hers. The argument of “oh well that’s not how the music industry does it historically they’re just listed as an arranger” refers to when the music industry had even worse ideas of song ownership where any money that fell between the cracks certainly didn’t make their way to the artists.

Silent Night is public domain, so while it's good practice to credit the original writer, there's no obligation to do so. I'm not a Beyonce fan and even I find this post ridiculous.

  4. Comment

Exactly. At 19 or 20 if she had anything to do with it. It was probably meant to be funny. The label called and asked: Beyonce says, “I wrote Silent Night” Then also on speakerphone, *Michelle Williams says “and I wrote O Holy Night”.* *They both giggle and hang up.*

  5. Comment

Well she deffo didnt write silent night right, her version would be the other credits but since it's just straight the popular silent night lyrics she shouldn't have credit for those? If she sang Baa Baa Black sheep and used the lyrics that are commonly sung by parents everywhere she doesn't get to claim writing credit for that either. So her/her management putting it down as a song she wrote when it's super obvious she didn't does show they're willing to lie about something multiple times (wasn't an accident on the track list in this example). Like the probably didn't but I'd be more suspicious of her other credits than a random other artist who didn't declare themselves the author of a random old folk song lol
