   Both of you are correct, getting lost where Lance told a half truth. Pre-2000 this is all correct. By the end of 1999, they got paid really well by force. In 2000-01 they were no longer in a 360 deal and 2 new successful back to back tours made them richer. NSYNC was poor in 1999, but in January 2000 not anymore from many archives contradicting Lance's claims. They talked about money struggles in 1999, but in 2000 bragged about spending their money post settlement. Lance is upset over 4 out of 7 wasted years. He had to provide for so many people around him out of generosity, but couldn't return home to Mississippi and chose to live in upscale areas of SoCal. He didn't write any album material, like Chasez and Timberlake. He lost money on bad "business" ideas. He's upset the most of all of them over the 90s, about his experiences with Pearlman's scamming and got them into the legal battle with Pearlman starting in mid-1999, prompting them to leave to Jive.

   But most importantly fuck Lars for feeling the need to be the face of this after multiple decades of punching down on others at that point. The guy was crying into glasses of wine as he sold his art collection for millions in profit around the same time on film for Some Kind of Monster while being upset he couldn't shit on Jason's solo show for not having a crowd when he went to troll it. His own former fucking bandmate who they never stopped hazing until he left.

   Metallica’s fan base does not care if they don’t make any political statements. Their fans are mostly suburban and/or working class dads after all. Think about the politics of that bloc. They’d probably be more upset if the band did make some political statement.

   Honestly, just kinda like who cares? Metallica fans have made up their mind they have been around 35 years and they are probably the most corporate metal band around.The effort that is put to being upset about this could be directed towards people actually making the decisions in the music industry such as labels, distribution, promoters/booking, venues, and streaming/algorithms. Or it can be used for good by supporting other artists outside of the industry that is censoring artists freedom of expression. Like share some cool bands with a message that you can get behind to some Metallica fans, I think that would be 100000x more impactful than being upset on reddit about it.
