The year I was born, "classic rock" wasn't even a thing yet, so 10 years prior to that the first generation of classic rock was still being made. Hm.

Man… that year was wild for music. We were going from hair metal to grunge at 1000mph. I remember having these albums on during the summer and by fall, grunge and flannel were all the rage. What a time.

This feels close but not quite right for me. My sister is 16 years older than me and I think growing up around her instead of just my parents as an older influence in the home skewed my view of what is old. Thus I would posit that 'a long time ago' is instead the year the eldest sibling in your home was born minus 10, or yourself if you are the eldest.
