   They didn't recommend it for him in particular, but for the position of Mayor. Also, the City Council has gone without any sort of raise for the past 10 years. They didn't just decide to give themselves some massive bump, an independent body ran the numbers and sorted it out.

   1-3 percent **per year.** An 18% raise for the first time in 10 years is roughly equivalent to a 1.8% raise every year for 10 years. Which again is on the low end of normal. Again I find extremely funny that you were calling me stupid and you can’t do basic math. I’m even more sure you’re a child now. Also I’m not a transplant, born and raised (something you haven’t finished being yet)

   Here's the actual truth. We all lost a lot this year due to the budget crisis. If the message he most wanted to send is "I know this crisis is costing you a lot, I won't take extra money out of the coffers while you're all tightening your belts", then good for him. It's performative, because obviously this doesn't fix the crisis, but sometimes performing like you're all in this together is good (see Melania's "I didn't really care" for a stark contrast). If the message he's trying to send is "The City Council are dicks for raising their own salary for the first time in 10 years" I have a problem with that. We want this to be a job that attracts talent that isn't already rich. The past 10 years have seen record inflation, meaning these jobs all got **SEVERE** pay cuts. I've seen a lot of chatter and spin about him turning it down, but I'm not 100% sure which of these things he's trying to say. What do you think?
