Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Self-driving cars are clearly the future. We just need to get rid of snow, rain, fog, tunnels, construction, cyclists, pedestrians, emergency vehicles, GPS interference, and unpredictability. They’ve spent billions trying to automate the cab driver instead of asking why we keep designing cities where everyone needs a car in the first place. Invest in public transportation instead.

Cut all administrative positions with director, social justice, equity, or the like in their name. That alone will probably save billions. Get rid of all the useless administrative positions in the DOE at tweed. If you’re not teaching or a principal, are you really helping students?

Only because NYC begged Albany to take NYCTA off their hands and merge it into the MTA. By 1970's NYC had shown it was no better at managing mass transit than the private companies it kicked out and took over bus and subway routes from. In particular was issue of "saving" the nickel or whatever cheap fare. City largely took over mass transit on promise it would keep fares low. Then lo and behold reality smacked City Hall in face, it takes money to run mass transit. Even without NYC's fiscal situation of 1970's NYCTA was doomed because system needed funds no one in city government was willing to pony up. Merging NYCTA into MTA was saving of city's mass transit system. Like Grand Central Terminal, the MTA poured scores of \*billions\* into city's subway and bus system because it can. Unlike NYC the MTA can raise funds for those efforts by taking on debt, and it has. 1970's subways and buses were shit. Things began to turn around in 1980's and certainly by 1990's largely if not wholly due to massive investments by MTA. Few years ago various voices in city hall and elsewhere were making noises about city taking back NYCT from MTA. Albany said "fine, lets rock..". Those voices quickly shut up about that idea and it's gone back to being not seriously spoken about, period.

You being ignorant of the work the city does is not the same as them not actually doing anything. They've spent many billions already and this has been reported on in various outlets the entire time. The impact of that work is that a bunch of areas don't flood when they previously would have, but people like you don't notice of give credit when things work out, and only pay attention when things go wrong.

    >Hopefully having a serious mayor will do something to reprioritize longterm initiatives that help solve this problem… but it is a large problem that will take many years to fully solve. Yellow card for unnecessary glazing. 🟨 There's still a ton of work to do, but this has been a major priority since Sandy and we've already spent billions upgrading our drainage system and building sea walls + flood gates over the last decade.
