Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

These hardworking vendors are part of Canal Street. Removing them is like removing what Canal Street actually is. They work harder than the cops. White NY post is just angry all the time.

People come from other countries just to buy knock offs on Canal street. It’s a thing — we’re cool like that.

Just re-assign some of the cops standing doing nothing in subway stations to to go to canal street to stand to do nothing. Stay there for 2-3 months, or whatever is long enough for folks to have find a different way to make a living.

Long Islander here and totally did the same thing 20 years ago in high school! Two other friends and I, all 17-18 year old girls, took the LIRR on a regular basis to go to canal street and go shopping. We definitely did the back room thing 1-2 times and we were so incredibly stupid to do so. I mean, it turned out how yours turned out, absolutely fine. But man, going down dark hallways with dudes looking out for cops and down some stairs into some saw looking hallway to be ushered into a room all for some dumb ass purses… we were dumb to keep following the man lol.

Here's an informative report of the issue in Tribeca Citizen from October of last year From what I understand the best way to deal with the issue is to legalize the street selling at which point they can make rules for it. Nypd does constant sweeps and raids but it's not working bc there's no formal penalties they can give and need help from the top. Idk what further "aggressive reinforcement" would do based on the panel that the city held discussing this matter. Mamdani creating a street vendor position sounds like progress to me. Do you want ICE raids in NYC? I don't think they should be trusted to do anything right based on their recent track record including killing Americans. I've lived in NYC for the majority of my life and did in fact grow up here. How many generations back should my family go in NYC to be allowed to have an opinion on Canal Street? Is 3 enough?
