   People generally don't want to fuck over their landlords. I've lived in this city for years and people often have a good relationship with their landlords and tend to stay for years before moving elsewhere. What this is doing is making slumlords pay up. No more can they just buy a building and then leave it to rot to keep making money.

   LOL, the world got along great before credit checks. A persons credit score is not a mirror into who they are or pay for things. And it's ridiculous too. I had the backing of two different landlords that confirmed I paid on time for years along with pay stubs from my last five pay checks and I was still denied an apartment because I didn't have a credit score of 700 (just a sad measly 670 because I don't have credit cards or open debt) You'l find plenty of renters with multiple ways to show you they're legit.

   It’s hard to imagine nobody is going to want to be a landlord when it is so profitable. Everybody acts like any negative impact to that industry will result in a massive landlord deficit but there is no evidence of that at all. This is just a rebalancing. I know people in tenants unions and it is truly not that big a deal for the landlords. They experience some temporary discomfort when they violate the lease, and that’s it.

   This sub is HILARIOUS 90% of my friends have never had a single problem with their landlords. They pay rent, the building is fine, the communication is adequate. They’re not asking for much as renters and almost no one is. The other 10% have water draining into their unit unattended to, harassment from their landlord, unmaintained core services like gas and electric. A tenants union is great for the latter and irrelevant to the former. Nobody *wants* to fight with their landlord. We have shit to do. Landlordbrain is wild.

   It's clear that the goal of this administration is to bankrupt landlords and seize distressed properties. Weaver has said this openly many times. The ONLY power a tenant union has is to collectively withhold rent payments. This could cause many small landlords to default on financing and then the city can come and foreclose on the properties. Conditions will obviously deteriorate for tenants when this happens, but the mayor's office doesn't actually care about tenants, they care about power. I hope everyone realizes this before it's too late.
