Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

\>What actually happens is we "treat" their mental illness until they appear stable, get released and they do it again and again and again and again until someone is actually murdered. In a lot of cases, we actually do treat and stabilize them. The real question becomes how would a mentally ill individual maintain a treatment plan in the outside world? Regular people forking over hundreds, if not thousands, a month can’t get that reliability. A person with cognitive issues is not going to be able to navigate a patchwork of assistance programs. And if you provide social workers, then the costs go so high that your political opponents call the whole system wasteful.

  2. Comment

Do you think mental illness turns your brian into a black box where your actions are determined by RNG? Psychotic disorders can lead you to believe all kinds of delusions about the people you see around you. They don’t mean you’re a completely reason-less animal. They mean your perceptions and beliefs about what’s happening around you can be heavily distorted.

  3. Comment

    > Which mental illness? Anorexia? Depression? Social Anxiety? Seasonal Affective Disorder? Ahhh yes, those violent Anorexics Are you being willfully ignorant, some of these individuals have been arrested dozens of times for violence.

  4. Comment

    > Yes that’s their point. You can’t assume all mentally ill people are future attempted murderers and preemptively lock them up. Er... It isn't pre-emptive. A lot of these individuals have dozens of arrests for violence. >They’re innocent until proven guilty — or even until they commit a crime. That's the problem. The crime is clear and they even get arrested a lot, but when it comes to the judiciary it falls apart because they're allowed back on the streets to attack again. >What we can do is treat their mental illness for free as a society. But we don’t. What actually happens is we "treat" their mental illness until they appear stable, get released and they do it again and again and again and again until someone is actually murdered. >We can prevent this by supporting the mentally ill before they commit a crime and hopefully correct their path We can prevent this by being harsher on violent crime >not by locking up every mentally ill person who hasn’t committed a crime And when they've been arrested dozens of times but they get released, then what?

  5. Comment

Why do you need a mental illness? Why can someone without a mental illness commit 3+ crimes but someone with a mental illness cannot? And how do you prove that your mental illness ties to the crime? Your solution seems easy and straightforward, but it wilts under even a little questioning. It's as if a complicated problem doesn't have an easy solution.
