Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

To brief those who didn’t read the article, the professor had two separate retirement accounts at NYU. The one he opened in 1975, he designated N.A.M., or its successor, as the beneficiary. The second account he opened in 1996, he designated his family as the beneficiary. His nephews are arguing that the beneficiary of that first account was supposed to be changed to his family when he opened that second account.

\> David Greenberg, who began teaching at NYU in 1973, named his parents as the primary beneficiaries of his retirement account, with the New American Movement or “any successor thereof” tapped as his contingent beneficiary. When Greenberg died in 2024 after nearly five decades at the school, his parents were no longer alive and the DSA claimed benefits under his account as the movement’s successor. He has no children and no immediate family. He left no will. His retirement account specifically called out the N.A.M. “or any successor thereof.” From this info it seems the DSA has a far more legitimate claim to the money than his non-immediate family especially when you consider that he didn’t even write a will leaving the money to them. The documents you sign mean something, we can’t just override them because we think he didn’t mean it. Source: Further context: \>Engelmayer explained that the DSA was established through the 1982 merger of the New American Movement and the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee, with the DSA assuming the assets and debts of both organizations. The relevant evidence “leaves no doubt” that the DSA qualifies as the movement’s successor under the ordinary meaning of the term, the judge said, noting that Greenberg himself was listed as a dues-paying DSA member for as far back as the organization kept electronic records.

\> David Greenberg, who began teaching at NYU in 1973, named his parents as the primary beneficiaries of his retirement account, with the New American Movement or “any successor thereof” tapped as his contingent beneficiary Source: This seems very open and shut. Lesson: update your beneficiary documents (if you want to change them, who knows maybe he didn’t care). He didn’t even have a will so it’s not like he felt strongly that his money went to his extended family.

That would double its budget from $174 Million to $348 Million, it's not practical. NYU's Marron Institute did a study on the Free Buss Plan (proposed $1 Billion per year, or triple a Free Fair Fares). They found for that amount of money per year there were significantly better ways for NYC to spend its budget to improve transit equity. Investing in infrastructure is medicine for the problem instead of a bandaid. I highly recommend reading the page, it's incredibly well done.

Yes, interesting but skeptical they'll really land it. But recouping property value benefit from public investment in infrastructure makes a lot of sense. should be private schools at any level, religious orgs, etc, etc, should all pay property taxes. if NYU and Columbia want to stay in manhattan, great. but they should pay a property tax bill. should also get out of property tax waivers on new development, and instead get rid of all the conditions on redevelopment, loosening zoning and streamline construction.
