He's not even proposing to her in that speech, he's confessing his love and the married aspect is a skip forward. Nevermind that a fictional rom com couple who have been platonically in each other's lives for years prior to becoming romantically entangled doesn't really compare to a couple that has not known each other for a year. That line is used on a couple that actually knew each other very deeply, not people rushing to get married.
