So unfortunately, they are legally in the clear here. If Katy's music is licensed to TikTok, any user (even the White House) can use them without issue. Katy's only resource is taking her music off the platform and I'm not sure if she can if she doesn't own her music.

This is why I think it's totally valid and even kinda smart when other artists ignore the white house using their material. I admire the people who rebuke it and it's totally their right to do so. Also, them denouncing it does bring more attention to the posts and encourages the WH to post more. That is not Katy's responsibility, to be clear. I also don't think it's the responsibility of other artists to imperative for artists to "speak up" when they very much run the risk of giving Trump exactly what he wants. Basically, we should be focusing less on how artists react to the WH using their material and more on getting these supposed "national leaders" out of power in the first place.
