   Because he was arguably the best player in the Bundesliga when we bought him and we hadn’t replaced Julian Alvarez yet so had no backup striker the first half of the season. The Marmoush signing paid dividends in the back half of that season as Haaland ended up getting injured and Marmoush scored 7 goals in 16 games, including a golazo against Bournemouth that won goal of the season. Last season Marmoush dealt with injuries and struggled to get back to form, then he left for AFCON and struggled to earn minutes from Pep upon his return. Would we like to get more out of him, certainly. However people acting like he was some trash off the street that we paid high wages cuz “lul oil money” are just looking for evidence to fit their own biased narratives. No reason he can’t be great this coming season.

   In every position we have some, and if not the best players in the league. Our core squad is so good that I’m not even worried about a fall off. When Fernandinho left, Rodri wasn’t even close to being the player he is today. Rodri leaving will hurt us temporarily but not enough, because our squad is still deep enough to compete. We will eventually have our replacement. Maresca isn’t Pep, but at least understands our philosophy and plays City brand football. He has all the tools at his disposal to thrive at City. My prediction is it’s either Arsenal or City taking first and second place.

   \#1 Arsenal - \~Outside of the Rice/Saka/Saliba injury situation, the squad has improved are coming back for another CL charge. Winning the league again will be a priority for Arteta as he'll want to cement Arsenal as serial winners and dismiss the idea that it was a fluke. They will be even better if they get someone like Alvarez. \#2 Probably Chelsea - Alonso is a great coach, inheriting a solid squad that suits his tactics with decent investment from the ownership. With a couple more signings they look really strong. 3# City - I think they're worse without Pep and if they lose Rodri that's at least 10 points they won't get this season. I still think they have a great squad and even though I think Maresca is a hack, he's not a terrible manager and plays in Pep's style. 4# United - With a bit of stability, a full pre-season + new signings, I think they will do really well under Carrick. A little concerned about their squad depth but they were very good last season once Carrick got involved. Liverpool - Great new manager, but they are so behind on signings. Need an entirely new defence and haven't replaced anyone who has left. Transfer business seems to be a mess. Isak will look good under Iraiola if he can keep him fit. Aston Villa - Struggling with finances and spread too thin across competitions, but could have an outside chance of top 4. Anyone that thinks Tottenham are getting anywhere CLOSE to top 4 are delusional, you don't go from near relegation to top 4 just because you got a new manager and a couple of decent players.

   There are so many things that need to be accounted for if you want to make a strong and calculated prediction for the upcoming season. I'll write my thought processes down next to each prediction. **1st: City** \- They were off the boil last year and still mounted a decent title challenge. Pep not being there shouldn't affect them too much when the replacement is literally one of his disciples. The league last year suffered from a massive drop in quality from some of the teams biggest spenders. That pattern will not repeat itself again, in such a short space of time. **2nd: Chelsea** \- I'm placing a lot of faith into Xabi and him being able to get everything clicking after a full pre-season, but I genuinely believe that his playstyle suits the team that he's inherited and if they can stay fit they'll have the freedom to abuse their lack of fixtures (no European football) and mount a serious title charge. **3rd: Arsenal** \- Saliba out till the New Year, Rice likely not starting until the first international break is over (if reports are true) and Saka essentially still not fit doesn't give Arsenal the best start. They had a lot of games last season where the margins were incredibly close, holding on to 1-0 wins against the grain of the game, pinching last minute winners etc etc. Those fortunes are not replicable in the slightest. There's also a rule change on time wasting and the royal rumbles in the box which undoubtedly affect their incredible ability to be a threat from corners. Their attacking combination is also one of the least terrifying of all teams in the "big 6". Something that I'd hope most Arsenal fans would agree with. I think they'll lose 3-4 games before Xmas before the business end of the season has even arrived, which then adds a layer of difficulty to stay at the top of the league. Historically speaking, if you lose 5-6 games (MAX), you won't be 1st in the table. **4th: United** \- I feel that if we can continue our form towards the back end of last season, we will go into this one relatively strong. We have a relatively appealing first few fixtures that could help to build some momentum. Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko were really clicking towards the end of last season so I'm hopeful that it will continue. Obviously Bruno was in the form of his life last season and it's safe to presume that this season will add a level of natural decline, purely because the peak was so high, but he'll still do what he's best at doing which is create countless amounts of opportunities for our front 3 and come up with important goals when necessary. Carrick has a lot to prove this year and we've also got European football again, so of course our results will be affected by it. **5th: Villa** \- Emery is a cog. Losing Rogers won't affect their ability to be difficult to beat. **6th: Spurs** \- They've heavily bolstered the middle of the park and their backline but I still think they're lacking in the forward areas and obviously goals win you games. **7th: Brentford** \- I can see Andrews and the incredible work from Phil Giles (DoF) continuing on into this season. They're another team that operates like a cog and I believe they will still be able to punish teams that take them for granted. **8th: Liverpool** \- Their lack of depth is alarming. Relying on a 35yr old Virgil after he's been at the World Cup all Summer would terrify me as a Liverpool fan. They have no Ekitike until the New Year, Bradley's injury seems to be an absolute horror, Isak's legs are made of cardboard and their current replacement for Salah is Chiesa... They're one injury in the first XI away from being in a bit of freefall in my opinion. Again, I believe that last year saw such a drop in the top spenders quality, it's difficult to ever imagine Spurs in yet another relegation battle and a newly promoted team securing European football (Sunderland).

   No particular order: Arsenal - strongest overall team, amazing squad depth, but will be without a couple of their core players to start the campaign. Could be off to a rocky start with missing core players, but things should pick up once they return. Bruno G is a fantastic signing to pair with Rice. Manchester United - can Carrick sustain his success, or was it a flash in the pan? Can he, and the squad, handle multiple fixtures a week? Chelsea - One fixture a week with a great manager and tactician that is finally being backed by the owners means a high finish should be likely, but you never know with these guys. Humiliated PSG on their way to winning the CWC, then finished the season in 10th, albeit factors out of their control such as Maresca abruptly quitting halfway through the season played a massive part in a poor campaign. Manchester City - Losing Pep and likely losing Rodri hurts. Have to see if Maresca adapts or tweaks his tactics from Chelsea. Wouldn’t be surprised if they finish outside the top four entirely. Potentially in the Top 4: Liverpool - Hard to see Liverpool cracking top four given how poor their defensive depth is. That being said, if they get Barcola over the line, they can always just try and out score their opponent with him, Isak, and Ekitike when he returns. Aston Villa - gutted and raided this summer, but I can never count out Super Unai Emery. Miracle worker that has done wonders for the Villans. Would not be surprised to see another top four finish.
