Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. Four months of this with no real answer is genuinely exhausting so I get the frustration completely. Doxycycline plus tretinoin is actually a reasonable combo though and it's worth remembering oral antibiotics can take a full 8-12 weeks to show real results, so 7-8 weeks in you might still be right at the edge of when it should start turning a corner. The red smooth spots around the mouth could def be perioral dermatitis rather than classic acne, that reacts badly to tretinoin and heavy creams and actually needs a totally different treatment, so it's worth flagging that specific pattern to your derm at the next check in rather than waiting the full five weeks. Simplifying everything else on your routine in the meantime, no other actives, gentle cleanser only, can help either way.

[routine help] Please help, it used to be like the second photo, but then stuff around the mouth happened and it’s been there for 4 months. (15m) - Hi, first photo is from July 10th, the second is from April 30th, and the rest are from September 20th. In early June, my mouth started to breakout and just hasn’t gone away. It’s been persistent for four months and I’m so so tired of it. Literally nothing is helping. Anyways, I went to a dermatologist about 3 weeks after it started and they prescribed me amoxicillin oral pills twice a day and Differin 0.1% Adapalene Gel about three times a week. I used this treatment for about two months without any results. Then, after I felt it wasn’t working, I switched to a new dermatologist and they prescribed me oral doxycycline pills once a day and topical tretinoin 0.025% cream once a night. I’ve been doing that for about 7-8 weeks by now. If anything it’s gotten worse. The dermatologist said she’d expect about 70-80% clearness by the time she checks back in with me (in about 5 weeks). There has just been so many pimples and idk what all around my mouth and lower face area. The stuff that has really stuck is these red spots thatre around my mouth (circled in the last photo) that feel smooth to the touch, like there’s nothing there. I’m not sure what I have, I was thinking it could be PIE or perioral dermatitis. If it is pie or pih just tell me how to get rid of it asap. I switched to sls free toothpaste about a week ago. Anyway, I’m just extremely desperate and not sure whether to trust the dermatologist when’s there’s been absolutely zero improvement or to stop all acne treatment together. Please please please help, I’m so desperate, I actually hate how it looks. Thank you, and if you need any more info just ask and I can provide.

[Acne] i’ve been struggling with persistent acne for the past 4 years - I (20m) have been struggling with persistent acne for the past four years, I’m incredibly frustrated and exhausted and starting to lose hope. i’ve tried just about every otc treatment, as well as doxycycline and tretinoin. tretinoin worked the best out of everything i tried, but it only slowed my breakouts and never fully stopped them. i was seeing a dermatologist but had to stop because my insurance changed, now i have to complete the treatment my pcp prescribed me (tret + doxy again, for three months) until i can get referred to another dermatologist. i would consider my skin combination, it feels oily and dry at the same time, i get a lot of closed comedones as well as inflammatory acne. my inflammatory acne always has a little seed with a hair in it that i find once the pimple pops. my acne is entirely on my cheeks, and always leaves these red marks for months after the pimple pops. i have never been able to keep my skin clear enough to fully get rid of the redness. i don’t hold my phone to my face, i wash my sheets every week & change my pillow case every other day, so i know that’s not causing it. my current routine looks like this: wash face 2x a day with cetaphil gentle foaming cleanser, moisturize with cerave cream, apply tretinoin (.025%) at night only. im taking tret + doxy for another month (already been on it for 2) until i see my pcp again so she can see it’s been mostly ineffective and (hopefully) refer me to a derm. until then, any advice would be greatly appreciated. (i did pop some pimples before these pics, im usually so good at not touching my face but i just hit a breaking point tonight and couldn’t help it🫩)

I generally wouldn't recommend benzoyl peroxide alongside tretinoin as using them together seriously increases the chances of irritation, but I'm sure they're using the BP to prevent bacterial resistance formation to the clindamycin. Without it, the clindamycin will stop working pretty quickly. However, 2% BP has been shown to be sufficient for this purpose while being much less irritating than 10%, so I might switch to that if you want to keep this routine more or less intact. All that said—and this is with recognition that it's hard to say this for certain when just going off a reddit post—I really don't see much point in prescribing topical clindamycin alongside doxycycline for acne. They cover the same bacteria and the doxycycline will generally be much more effective. I would imagine that tretinoin with the oral doxy would produce really great results without BP or clindamycin.
