   **Startup:** Zip's Mailbox Club, based in Red Bank, NJ. I'm Mack, the founder. **The idea:** I wrote a mystery for kids that arrives through the mailbox, two letters a month. Their interests and little updates from home become part of later letters. I also choose the stickers, colors and activities around each kid, then decorate, review and pack the mail myself. Kids can write or draw back to join in, but it's optional. The first mystery runs for 12 months and has an ending. It's $20 per child/month, postage included, and renews monthly until canceled. **Stage:** Live, refining the offer and how I explain it. **Goal this month:** Make it easier for parents and grandparents to understand what they're buying before they've held a mailing.    You are. These apps have been around since flip phone. Notably RTM (remember the milk) it's been done To Death, my 70yo mom writes financial code in C, small businesses are leaving Wix. Why just "write it down" when likely one of these assistants can likely just do it for you. They gunna pay you $5 a month over a $20 sub that gives them that power? It's more worth a dollar a year, if that.

   High-consideration is the right call, and it is also the harder one. The trust bar for a $20 purchase is a good review. For $2,000 it is a track record. The shortcut: publish your misses too. An agent that shows what it got wrong and why is more trustworthy than one that only shows wins. Trust for big purchases is built on visible honesty, not perfect answers.

   competitors with no users tells you more than whether to build. i'd go find the people who tried those tools and quit (app store reviews, their old launch threads, reddit posts asking for alternatives) and ask why they stopped. if it's because the tool was bad, you have room. if it's because the problem only comes up twice a year, building a better version won't fix that. before writing code i'd also try to get 3 people with your exact problem to pay you something small, even $20 for a manual version you do by hand. what's the problem you're solving for yourself?

   How much are they willing to pay? And NOT hypothetically, like will you buy my widget for $20? Looks useful, sure? Will they commit or willing to advance on it before it's built, launched? One thing really cool about croudfunding, besides all the grifters trying to collect without building anything, is that an honest one kinda gives you an idea for demand. If you can build a demo you can give away for free and see if anyone asks for a paid full version, that'd also gauge the demand.
