   Cold, honestly. My partner emailed small licensed customs brokers and offered a free design partnership, we build the tool around their real files. One owner of a small brokerage answered. We had four video calls in about a month, he gave us real entries to test on, and at the end he joined as a co-founder instead of being a customer. I think what worked was asking for his expertise, not trying to sell to him.

   Wow, you are a complete sucker. Even if you succeed, your hard work will never pay off with someone like this as your partner. His lack of transparency and complete bullshit around communication (especially around finances) should tell you everything. You're not a partner, not a co-founder, just a naive person that he can manipulate. Find someone that's actually legitimate to partner with. I guarantee they'll be the exact opposite of this joker.

   I am only on the board of startups I personally found. I just prefer staying on the build side. If I’m a co-founder I reject the board position unless it necessary in which case I sign over voting rights
