   I feel the same way, but with Anthropic as well. Both of these companies are spending a fortune to ultimately build a commodity service in a highly competitive environment. The cost to build these models and maintain relevance is ultimately best suited to big tech which has both the balance sheet and other cash flows to sustain the investment.

   Yes, didn’t want to call out directly but Indians in big tech (from my experience) tend to hold onto caste culture and bring it to the workplace in the us.

   Worked in big tech for the last 5 years. I was one of 3 other American born (as in, went thru American school systems, went to American college, lived in USA my whole life) within my entire 200 person engineering org. My thought was they hire H1Bs because as you said it’s basically indentured servitude. It’s fucked, if the H1B gets fired they have 60(?) days to get a new job to sponsor it or they get deported. I had several rounds of layoffs over my tenure (myself laid off back in July) and it was pretty horrible seeing people who had moved here and built their lives in the USA for the last decade be forced into such a stressful situation. However, i suppose that’s just the choice you made… they know full and well that something like that is a possibly it’s a trade off between stress/wlb and $$$. I will say though, I am not a fan of these companies hiring the amount of H1Bs/international employees that they do. I knew so many people I graduated from school with who got their CS degrees and couldn’t find anything yet these jobs are 90% filled with international (primarily India and china) H1Bs. That pissed me off a bit at the companies (can’t fault the H1Bs, I would do the same thing if I was in that situation). Also a lot of the time (saw first hand in my company) you can get someone of a specific nationality into a position there they make the hiring decisions which results in that org literally being only a specific nationality. I am not sure how that is legal but it definitely happens.

   I have worked at big tech and most big tech has major GCC offices in india, eastern asia and Europe... They are pretty competent at their work.. If you wanted a job at big tech in india as a developer, it was much harder... High population, harder dsa level, more loops of dsa and system design and what not... Heard from my co-workers.
