Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I'm going to skip reading any of this and focus on the 'near future' part. Even if this was started on tomorrow and Musk teamed up with every other space faring billionaire and NASA to boot they wouldn't even have a working prototype by 2030. SpaceX/ASTS are currently battling it out to offer D2D connections (space mobile if you will) and neither side will have a commercial product (beta doesn't count) until at least 2028 and that's just launching satellites. Building a data centre in space is multitudes more complex.

It is a fun problem, getting rid of the heat in space. One solution might be to internally xfer the heat to an object and then eject the object. Where they get replacement heat sink objects is then the new problem. Another might be to inflate an insanely large flexible-solar film to drive a cooling (insert something Carnot cycles here) for cooling? I don't know but I would love to work on this problem for anyone other than Musk.

I can’t wait for quantum to crash and burn. It’s on par with slinging data centers in space. Ask anyone with a physics degree who isn’t a quack and isn’t financially tied to any quantum stock. Can’t wait for the 2.3 gpa finance majors from shithole state try to explain how quantum is a year away from replacing gpus.

Unrelated question: Since radiation power scales with temperature to the 4th power, are there any satellites that use heat pumps to push up the radiator temperature up, or is it not worth it due to space/weight/power constraints?

  5. Comment

"The chips can currently run AI workloads (such as running Google's models) for about 15 minutes at a stretch before they need to shut down and cool off, because heat in a vacuum can only be shed via radiators" "Google's Trillium TPUs in space require about 45 minutes of cool-down time". So it works as much as Betty in a call center [SINGULARITY IS HERE] [HIGH EFFICIENCY].
